The Republic of Armenia became a member of FAO on 8 November 1993 and FAO office was opened in the country in 2004. By becoming a member of FAO, the Republic of Armenia received the Organization's support to implement various development and emergency programs aimed at increasing agricultural productivity and improving food security in Armenia.

Currently, the Food Safety Authority of the Republic of Armenia is working closely with FAO within the framework of the "Strengthening Risk Assessment and Management Capacity for Animal Health and Food Safety - FAO Program" (TCP/ARM/3702), in works related to reducing the spread of antibiotic resistance in food and agriculture and providing technical assistance in the preparation and submission of dossiers with OIE requirements for freedom from peste des petits ruminants ("PPR") status.
